Register for Summer Youth Programs

We have three great programs for Summer 2026:

Galielo scope.jpg

BUILD A GALILEOSCOPE:  Students will follow the optics curriculum for this program created by the American Astronomical Society in 2009 to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy.  The Galileoscope was designed as an educational kit to teach about the elements that go into a refracting telescope as well as optical principles of other scopes. Each student will receive their own kit to assemble and take home, hopefully, to expand their interest and experience viewing and learning about the starry night skies about us.

July 6 – 10 (12 seats) / Program Fee* - $40.00/child

2.0 hours Monday - Friday (3:00 to 5:00)

Aimed at youth ages 10+

Tardegrade.jpg

THE 4th GREATEST TARDIGRADE HUNT IN RED LODGE HISTORY: Participants will learn all about tardigrades (aka water bears) before we take to the field for hunting and collection.  They’ll prepare slide samples and search for tardigrades under a microscope to observe, identify parts, classify and conduct experiments.  They’ll keep a biology lab notebook to state hypotheses, record methods & equipment used, drawings, findings, and conclusions.  Who knows what else may be found?

July 13– 17 (12 seats) / Program Fee* - $30.00/child

 2.0 hours Monday - Friday (3:00 to 5:00)

Aimed at youth ages 9+

VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMING CAMP:  Kids will program their own video game using Microsoft’s MakeCode ARCADE.  They’ll create their own digital characters (sprites), interface with controllers, define themes, add gameplay elements to challenge players and most importantly, test and perfect their games based on player feedback.  Hero’s will publish links to all the finished games on Hero’s Facebook page so others may be invited to play!

July 27 – 31 (12 seats) / Program Fee* - $30.00/child

2.0 hours Monday - Friday (3:00 to 5:00)

Aimed at youth ages7+

After School Programs

Hero's STEAM has offered the Code Girls United Program (for girls grades 4 – 8) for 5 years now and plans to continue serving the program with each new academic year.  The previous 4 years produced winning teams that received scholarships for higher learning.  This years’ 5th challenge will be held on April 25th at the STEAM Center.

For three years now, Hero’s served the Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pathways (NESSP) program to students grades 3 – 8.  This is a NASA funded STEM program managed by Central Washington University (CWU).  The future of this program is tenuous due to cuts of federal funding for NASA's Outreach and Education budgets.  NESSP and MSU Bozeman hosted this years' HUB challenge for our region on April 21st.  Tune in next Fall to see if this program is offered here again or if a similar program is planned.

Registration for after school programs begins late August If you are interested in registering your student(s) for the 26/27 school year, check back here in August 2026.
